List of Verbs (Conceptual Framework for Curriculum Unit)
Examine: To inspect in detail or investigate thoroughly; students will investigate enduring ideas in detail and express their findings in the forms of visual media.
Explore: inquire into or discuss (a subject or issue) in detail, in order to familiarize oneself. Students will learn to discuss art concepts and contemporary art issues in detail, to familiarize themselves with the art world and practices.
Express: to convey (a thought or feeling) in words or by gestures; students will learn to express their thoughts/feelings through artistic gestures without words.
Interpret: to explain the meaning of; students will explain the meanings of art works, both their own and well-known artists' works to gain deeper understanding and insights into the artists intent and meaning of the work.
Communicate: Share or exchange information, news, or ideas. Students will share ideas through art forms, and learn to view art as a form of communication and expression.
Build: Construct (something, typically something large) by putting parts or material together over a period of time. Students will construct art works, spending time and using different materials as they build their physical work as well as their knowledge or art skills and practices.
Develop: To grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced, or elaborate. Students will grow and develop their artistic skills and knowledge through class discussions, examples and practice.
Question: To ask, seek, or desire to know; students will question what enduring ideas such as spirituality, freedom, or identity mean to them, and how they can express ideas about those beliefs through artistic means.
Notice: To observe or pay attention to; become aware of. Students will become aware of the beauty/art to be found around them as they focus on building a creative life.
Create: To produce; bring (something) into existence. Students will produce art as they explore ideas and build skills.
